Sunday School Resources

Here are the resources for our class, Tough Questions, Real Answers

General Resources

GotQuestions.org is a great place to get questions answered from the perspective of the Bible.

Videos of the class will be posted on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@5moretalents

Week 1 Resources: Truth, and the Resurrection

Gary Habermas has a PhD in the History and Philosophy of Religion from Michigan State University.  His dissertation was on the resurrection, but without using the Bible.  In so doing, he developed the Minimal Facts Argument, and has become a world expert on the resurrection.  The 1st book of his magnum opus, "On the Resurrection: Evidences" is out.  He is also an expert on Near Death Experiences (NDE's) that have evidence to back them up.  YouTube channel

J. Warner Wallace is a famous cold case detective from Los Angeles.  He grew up an atheist.  When his wife became a Christian, he tried to prove Christianity wrong.  He is an expert in eye witness testimony.  He knows what it looks like (that multiple eye witnesses never tell the story the same way), and when it is faked.  He was immediately struck by how the Gospels looked like eye witness testimony, and he eventually believed.  He does a great job of laying out the facts in a logical way.  YouTube channelCold Case Christianity is one of his great books.

Lee Strobel was an atheist lawyer who was also an investigative reporter for the Chicago Tribune.  His wife also became a Christian.  To prove her wrong, he investigated the resurrection, interviewing many source experts.  He, too, became a believer.  The book, and also the 2017 movie (which also tells their love story) documenting his investigations is called the Case For Christ.

Week 2 Resources: Can We Trust the Bible?

Joel Kramer is an archaeologist, currently in Jordan, who has written the book, "Where God Came Down, the Archaeological Evidence." which was #1 on Amazon for archaeology, not Biblical archaeology, for 4 years.  He does an awesome job on his YouTube channel, Expedition Bible, of showing the evidence that confirms the history of the Bible.

Wesley Huff is the Central Canada Director for Apologetics Canada and is finishing up a PhD in New Testament, focusing on the original manuscripts of the early church.  He was catapulted to fame in 2024 when he was in a debate with Billy Carson, whom Joe Rogan had had on his show.  Joe then invited him onto the Joe Rogan Experience.  His video on "Ancient Artifacts that confirm the Bible | Wes Huff lecture" gives amazing new evidence that the New Testament is what it says it is.

Josh McDowell is the original modern day Christian Apologist.  He wrote the classic Evidence that Demands a Verdict, which had a big impact on my (Mark's) life.  It has since been rewritten with help from his son, Sean McDowell.  Josh's website has a lot of short videos on specific topics.  A student of manuscripts and their copying, he talks about the authenticity and reliability of scripture. He has a scroll he lets people touch and inspect.

Week 3 Resources: How can an all good, all powerful God allow so much pain and suffering?

Joni Eareckson Tada suffered a diving accident at age 16, and became a quadriplegic.  She went through a time of great grief, frustration, and anger.  Eventually she came to trust God.  She founded a ministry of hope and help to other people with disabilities all over the globe called “Joni and Friends”.  She is a beautiful singer, and artist, drawing with a brush in her teeth.  Her quiet, joyful spirit inspires many.  Sometimes being a quadriplegic was a very heavy load to bear.  But around the time that she turned 50, she started experiencing extreme, unrelenting pain in her back

Sean McDowell is an apologist, like his dad.  He teaches at Biola University  He covers lots of topics on his YouTube channel, including the problem of evil and suffering.  Recently, Sean went through a period where he had extreme pain...

John Lennox is a mathematics professor at Oxford who talks a lot about pain and suffering, as an apologist.  This is a talk at Harvard with over 1 million views.

C. S. Lewis wrote a book about The Problem of Pain and talked about it quite a bit.  He was a great Apologist from the first half of the 1900's.  The book is available at any library.
